Learning Beyond the Classroom
The 2025–2026 Gita Vicara Leadership Program (GVLP) was a journey of discovery, where students explored timeless wisdom through games, discussions, creativity, and service. Guided by our motto, Play. Reflect. Act., every session encouraged students to think deeply, work collaboratively, and apply values in everyday life. What began as a weekly gathering evolved into a vibrant community of young leaders learning to make thoughtful choices, serve others, and lead with purpose.
Learning Through Play
Games became our classroom and our teachers. Through Memory Maya, Clash of Dynasties, Ganga River Rescue, and Kurukshetra, students explored concepts such as decision-making, teamwork, resilience, resource management, and dharma. Every game sparked conversations that connected ancient wisdom with modern challenges, proving that meaningful learning can be engaging, interactive, and fun.
From Players to Changemakers: The Marketing Funnel Challenge
Learning didn't stop at playing the games—it extended into understanding how meaningful ideas reach people. Through our Marketing Funnel Challenge, students explored the journey from creating awareness to inspiring action, learning how storytelling, communication, and empathy play a vital role in sharing a mission. Working in teams, they designed outreach strategies, developed creative campaigns, and presented their ideas, discovering that leadership is not just about having great ideas, but also about inspiring others to join the journey.
Creativity, Communication & Leadership
Throughout the year, students stepped into the roles of creators, marketers, presenters, and storytellers. They designed promotional campaigns, produced videos and reels, participated in Kahoot competitions, explained game strategies, created social media content, and collaborated on team challenges. These activities strengthened communication, creativity, confidence, and leadership while making learning enjoyable and memorable.
The Shanti Walk: Walking Together for Peace & Planet
As part of our ReWild Long Island partnership, students took learning outdoors through the Shanti Walk, connecting the idea of Shanti—peace—with our relationship to ourselves, our community, and nature. The walk gave students an opportunity to slow down, observe the natural world, and reflect on how environmental stewardship can begin with awareness and simple everyday actions. It was a meaningful reminder that peace isn't only something we talk about—it is something we practice through the way we live and care for the world around us.
The Kurukshetra Masterclass: Winning the Inner Battle
Our four-part Kurukshetra Masterclass invited students to look beyond game strategy and discover the deeper lessons of the Bhagavad Gita. Sessions focused on seeing situations clearly, making value-based decisions, using intelligence with integrity, and taking ownership of one's actions. Through the stories of Krishna, Arjuna, Draupadi, Karna, Sahadeva, Yudhishthira, Sanjaya, and even Shakuni, students reflected on how leadership begins with mastering the inner battlefield.
Guest Speaker Series with Rajiv Menon
One of the year's highlights was our inspiring Guest Speaker Series featuring Rajiv Menon, who challenged students to think critically about Indian culture and philosophy. Through engaging talks and interactive Q&A sessions, students explored topics such as Dharma, the Dashavatara, temple symbolism, the Divine Feminine, and the relevance of Hindu traditions in today's world. Activities like Build-a-Deity and Ritual Remix encouraged curiosity, thoughtful discussion, and a deeper appreciation for India's rich spiritual heritage.
Preparing for Om Shanti ×3
Weeks of planning and teamwork culminated in preparations for the Om Shanti ×3 Festival. Students designed interactive game booths, rehearsed stage performances, developed educational activities, and worked together to share India's timeless wisdom with families and the wider community. Every student contributed their unique talents to create an engaging and meaningful experience.
Celebrating at the Om Shanti ×3 Festival
The festival brought months of preparation to life through games, performances, art, and community engagement. Guests experienced Indian philosophy in an interactive and accessible way while students confidently led activities and welcomed participants of all ages. It was a celebration of learning, culture, teamwork, and joyful service.
Launching Kurukshetra
A major milestone this year was the official launch of Kurukshetra, our strategy-based deck-building game inspired by the Mahabharata. Students celebrated with tournaments, strategy workshops, Kahoot challenges, and exciting parent-versus-parent matches while proudly introducing the game to the community. Watching years of development become a reality inspired students to dream big and appreciate the power of perseverance, teamwork, and innovation.
Graduation: Celebrating the Journey
Our graduation celebration marked the culmination of a remarkable year filled with growth and transformation. Class of 2026 students reflected on their experiences, shared personal insights, and celebrated friendships built through countless hours of learning and service. It was a meaningful reminder that leadership is measured not only by accomplishments, but by character, compassion, and the willingness to continue learning.
Recognizing Excellence
Throughout the year, students challenged themselves through leadership activities, creative competitions, marketing challenges, game design projects, and Kahoot quizzes. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication were celebrated with awards and recognition that highlighted both individual growth and collaborative success. Every achievement reflected the effort students invested in learning, serving, creating, and supporting one another.
Circle Time: Pause, Reflect & Carry It Forward
As the year came to a close, students gathered for a final GVLP Reflection Circle—a chance to pause and look back on the experiences, challenges, friendships, and lessons of the year. Through prompts such as “This year I learned…” and “One value I want to practice…”, students shared what stayed with them and what they hoped to carry forward. It was a simple but meaningful way to bring Play. Reflect. Act. full circle—recognizing that the real value of everything we explored is in how we choose to live it.
Summer Game Design Camp
Learning didn't stop when the school year ended. During the GFS Summer Game Design Camp, students reverse-engineered popular games, explored innovative game mechanics, built original prototypes, and experienced the complete design process from idea to playable creation. Working in collaborative teams, they discovered that innovation thrives through curiosity, experimentation, and persistence.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on another incredible year, we celebrate not only the games we played or the events we hosted, but the leaders we are helping to shape. Every challenge, discussion, volunteer hour, and moment of reflection has prepared our students to carry timeless wisdom into a rapidly changing world. We look forward to another exciting year of learning, serving, creating, and growing together.
